Guidelines for depth data collection in rivers when applying interpolation techniques ( kriging ) for river restoration ∗

چکیده
Papers published in Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Discussions are under open-access review for the journal Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Abstract River restoration appraisal requires the implementation of monitoring programmes that assess the river site before and after the restoration project. However, little work has yet been developed to design effective and efficient sampling strategies. Three main variables need to be considered when designing monitoring programmes: space, time 5 and scale. The aim of this paper is to describe the methodology applied to analyse the variation of depth in space, scale and time so more comprehensive monitoring programmes can be developed. Geostatistical techniques were applied to study the spatial dimension (sampling strategy and density), spectral analysis was used to study the scale at which depth shows cyclic patterns, whilst descriptive statistics were used 10 to assess the temporal variation. A brief set of guidelines have been summarised in the conclusion.

Accuracy Analysis of Precipitation Regionalization Methods Based on Spatial Interpolation Techniques in Zayandeh-Rud River Basin
In the present study, we used 27 precipitation average monthly data from synoptic, climatologic, rain-guage and evaporative stations located in Zayandeh-Rud river basin for the period of 1970-2014. Before interpolating, the missing data in the time series of each station was reconstructed by the normal ratio method. Also, for the data quality control, the Dickey-Fuller and Shapiro-Wilk tests we...
متن کاملSpatio-Temporal Analysis of Drought Severity Using Drought Indices and Deterministic and Geostatistical Methods (Case Study: Zayandehroud River Basin)
Drought monitoring is a fundamental component of drought risk management. It is normally performed using various drought indices that are effectively continuous functions of rainfall and other hydrometeorological variables. In many instances, drought indices are used for monitoring purposes. Geostatistical methods allow the interpolation of spatially referenced data and the prediction of v...
متن کاملPrediction of river hydraulic conditions via satellite multi-spectral imagery and statistical learners
The hydrologic regimes and ecology of many rivers have been altered through human action. Understanding the natural processes and the extent of alteration is a crucial component of management and restoration of these systems. River and floodplain systems are often highly dynamic, requiring data sets that cover a large spatial extent to fully assess ecological structure and function. However, in...
متن کاملCharacterization Methods for Small Estuarine Systems in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the United States
Various statistical methods were applied to spatially discrete data from 14 intensively sampled small estuarine systems in the mid-Atlantic U.S. The number of sites per system ranged from 6 to 37. The surface area of the systems ranged from 1.9 to 193.4 km 2 . Parameters examined were depth, bottom temperature, bottom salinity, surface chlorophyll a, bottom dissolved oxygen, lead concentration ...
متن کاملUtilizing Geographic Information Science Advancements For Bathymetric Mapping and Dredging Assessment of a Small Urban Lake in Southeastern Minnesota
Currently emphasis on accurate and timely collection of fisheries data generates a need for investigation into advanced techniques in bathymetry, including recent refinements in Geographical Information Science (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS). The study area for this project was the east basin of Lake Winona, a small Mississippi River floodplain lake in Winona, Minnesota USA. Lake Wi...
